Propriétés

  • Anti-inflammatoire [1] (identique à l'indométhacine)
  • Hypouricémiant par inhibition de la xanthine oxydase (comme d'autres flavonoïdes : genkwanine, lutéoline 7-méthyl éther, lutéoline) [2]
  • Prévention de la rétinopathie et de neuropathies chez les diabétiques par inhibition de l’aldose réductase (responsable de la conversion du glucose en fructose qui s'accumule dans les tissus oculaires) [3]
  • Vasorelaxant [4], entraine une relaxation artérielle, inhibe la contraction de l'aorte induite par de fortes concentrations de Calcium et potassium, ainsi que par l'épinéphrine [5]
  • Anticancéreux [6], [7], puissant inhibiteur de l'angiogénèse anormale des cellules cancéreuses, anti-oxydant [8]
    • Préventif du cancer de la prostate, inhibiteur de sa croissance, inducteur d’apoptose [9], [10]
    • Antiangiogénique comme la lutéoline, inhibe la migration des cellules musculaires lisses vers le néo-vaisseau et l’invasion cellulaire en agissant sur la liaison du facteur de croissance PDGF à son récepteur [11]
    • Ralentit la synthèse des œstrogènes et leur effet favorisant sur la prolifération des cellules cancéreuses (bloque une étape de la chaîne de fabrication des oestrogènes, aussi bien dans des cellules cancéreuses en culture que dans d’autres types de cellules où la synthèse des oestrogènes est habituellement très active [12]
    • Inhibition de l'aromatase [13],[14], [15], [16], enzyme qui catalyse la conversion d'androstènedione en estrone et de testostérone en estradiol
    • Effet progestatif (phytoprogestatif, avec kaempférol, lutéoline, naringénine) [17], modulateur des récepteurs de la progestérone au niveau de l'utérus [18]
    • Génistéine et apigénine sont des agents de chimioprévention des cancers de la prostate et du sein, avec des effets anti-prolifératifs et pro-apoptotiques par l'activation de la caspase-3 [19]
    • Potentialités thérapeutiques contre le cancer du sein résistant aux anti-œstrogènes, l'apigénine fonctionnant à la fois comme un anti-œstrogène et un inhibiteur de protéine kinase [20], [21]
  • Inhibe l'agrégation plaquettaire
  • Anxiolytique, ligand compétitif pour les récepteurs benzodiazépiniques centraux, sédatif sans effet anticonvulsivant ni myorelaxant, hypnotique [22], [23], [24], [25]
  • Potentialités dans la maladie d'Alzheimer, neuroprotecteur, avec curcumine, acide docosahexaénoïque, épigallocatéchine gallate, acide alpha-lipoïque, resvératrol [26], [27]
  • Antiviral, l’apigénine montre une forte activité contre les virus à ADN : Herpes-virus-2 (HSV-2), Adenovirus-3 (ADV-3), virus de l'l’hépatite B (HBV) par son antigène de surface [28]
  • L'apigénine est métabolisée par la flore intestinale [29]

Effet thérapeutique

  • Endométriose, l'apigénine induit l'apoptose dans les cellules endométriosiques via les voies de signalisation cellulaire ERK1/2, JNK et AKT [30]
