Effet thérapeutique

  • Paludisme (malaria)
    • En 1998, l’OMS disait que « l’artémisinine et ses dérivés sont sûrs et efficaces en remplacement de la quinine pour le traitement du paludisme grave » [22]
  • Cancer [23] (sein)

Effets indésirables

  • Semble toxique pour les animaux mais pas pour les humains [24], [25]
  • Risque d'interactions médicamenteuses, inhibition de l'activité enzymatique des cytochromes p450, surtout les isoformes CYP1A2, 2B6, 2C19 et 3A4 [26]
  • Éviter pendant le premier trimestre de la grossesse [27]
  • Risque de neurotoxicité mais la durée actuelle d'administration de 3 à 5 jours est assez sûre [28]
