Propriétés

  • Propriétés anticancéreuses [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], induit l'activité des caspase-3, -7, -9, diminue l'expression de Bcl-2, entraine la libération de cytochrome c et augmente la concentration de caspase-9 et de poly(ADP-ribose) polymérase (dans cellules NSCLC épithéliales bronchiques et fibroblastiques de la langue), inhibe la prolifération des cellules de cancer ovarien résistantes au cis-platine, forte synergie avec le cis-platine [7]
  • Inducteur d'apoptose, pourrait agir dans les leucémies et les tumeurs solides, le cancer du poumon (NSCLC), lignées cellulaires H460 et A549, en synergie avec le cis-platine [8], cancer de la prostate [9], cancer du sein [10], cancer de l'estomac [11]
  • Antitumoral dans cancers du poumon et du colon [12], les gliomes malins [13], [14], [15], [16], [17]
  • Néanmoins, diverses méta-analyses mentionnent une faible qualité méthodologique et demandent confirmation [18]
  • Le bêta-élémène induit l'apoptose mitochondriale des synoviocytes de type fibroblastes, intérêt dans la polyarthrite rhumatoïde [19]

Effet thérapeutique

  • Diminue la synthèse et le dépôt excessif de collagène dans les cicatrisations hypertrophiques et les chéloïdes [20]
