Propriétés

  • Les deux énantiomères (+)-carvone et (-)-carvone sont spasmolytiques des muscles lisses (trachée et aorte de cochon d’Inde) [2]
  • Activité sédative et antalgique [3]
  • Détoxifiante hépatique
  • Activité antimicrobienne et antibiofilm de la carvone vis-à-vis de Staphylococcus aureus [4]
  • La (-)-carvone est antalgique [5], comme la alpha-bêta-époxy-carvone, également anti-inflammatoire [6]
  • La carvone est l'une des cétones les moins neurotoxiques
  • Activité anticholinestérasique [7]
  • Activité sur la libération de glutamate au niveau médullaire [8]
  • Inhibiteur de germination des pommes de terre et antifongique [9]

Effet thérapeutique

Effets indésirables

  • La DL50 des deux énantiomères a été évaluée chez la souris à 400 à 500 mg/kg de poids corporel [3]
  • (-)-carvone :
    • Effets aigus chez l'animal si ingérée en grande quantité : dépression du système nerveux central, ataxie
    • Effets chroniques chez l'animal : retard de croissance, atrophie des testicules
  • (+)-carvone :
    • Irritation cutanée [10]
